Podcast icon

Remember when RSS got a new icon some time ago? Within weeks and months, everybody agreed to use the new icons from Feed Icons.

I don’t know if this is old news, if anyone has suggested something like this before blah blah blah. But this is a very nice icon representing a podcast:

I think it’s brilliant. I found it at the Dumb Little Man blog, that showed up on a search I did on del.icio.us today. It’s made by Spoiltchild, but I couldn’t find any mention of it on their site.

    LOL. I didn’t see that (as I NEVER watch or play that here in Norway). But when you mention it so… It does. I’ll try to make one myself with iPod-looking earbuds in Photoshop. The idea is brilliant; putting headphones on a feed icon. But maybe they look a bit out-of-date?

    It’s actually cute, but logical. If you showed this image to the general public, it’d be good to see if they can tell what it represents.

    I guess that would depend upon their knowledge of RSS and the RSS symbol? According to a post on Scoble some days ago only 2% knows RSS so far. But that will certainly change when IE7 and Vista is out with RSS integrated everywhere. I guess the number of Mac users knowing RSS is much higher as RSS is integrated in Safari already.

    I liked this photo when I first saw it but then it got me thinking. What does it say? If you look at it the RSS icon is listening to something. Instead of “Listen to RSS” The RSS is doing the listening. But I still really like it.
