15 richest fictional characters
Forbes has a funny list of the 15 richest fictional characters:
To qualify for the Fictional 15, we insisted that members be both fictional (in the sense that we excluded mythological and folkloric figures) and characters (meaning they are part of a narrative story or series of stories). Great wealth was required to be one of the primary attributes of the characters on this list–in other words, we looked for characters that were known, within their universes, for being rich.
Santa wins (big surprise):
Analysts expect impact on toy and candy production to be minimal. Claus’ ultimate motivations for annual gift-giving orgy remain unclear. Speculated to be tormented by infinite wealth; embarks on annual around-the-world trip in a futile attempt to give it away.
LOL. Also on the list: Willy Wonka, Lara Croft and Lucius Malfoy.
Wired Tech Trend
User Rich115 at Flickr has made a cool graph, showing how the number of pages in the Wired magazine increases months before the Nasdaq composite index goes up.
Update: Picked up by Boingboing too.

50 paces
Grab your camera. Head out the door. Count your steps, and when you’re at 50: Take a picture. Take another 50 steps and take another one etc.
Submit them to the new 50 paces group at Flickr. It’s started by Lex in Toronto, Canada. Why?
In early January, I will collect and print the photos submitted to this group, laminate them and they will be hung on trees embedded in the river ice every 50 paces. Photos will be hung on the corresponding tree – i.e. the “50 paces” photos will be on the 50 paces tree. The “1000 paces” photos will be on the 1000 paces tree. By inviting other Flickr photographers from around the world to participate I hope to have a colourful and fascinating set of photos for the installation.
The reason why she got the idea is very cool (which proves there is an idea waiting everywhere you’re going):
Last winter I lived my father’s island life waiting for the ice to form on the river so I could cross to shore. Part of this process included testing the ice to make sure it was safe to cross. The rule is that every 50 paces, you stop and chop a hole in the ice to test its thickness. Where the ice is safe to cross, you marking the path path by putting trees in the holes you’ve chopped in the ice. These trees become a road to and from the island until the ice is unsafe to cross again.
Here are some of the pics people have submitted to the group so far.
Don’t trust unknown shops on the net
Thomas Hawk tried to buy a camera. And what a mess it became. Follow his story at Flickr or at his site.
So even very experienced people like Thomas can be fooled by low prices and great reviews. The company Thomas bought from, had a four star rating at Yahoo Shopping, with almost 900 reviews. How could they get that score if they are just bad?
Here are a few tips of mine when shopping online:

If you like Sara’s pictures, consider helping her. She has skin cancer and writes about it here.
This red thing is my triple-wow.

OK, we DO need an Xbox 720
Looking at the amazing computer graphics by Pixar in the new Cars teaser, I realise that we do need an Xbox 720. Or a PS4. Even if the graphics in games like Project Gotham Racing 3 looks awesome, you still see that it’s from a games console. The cars look great but the nature passing by look so much better when Pixar’s renderfarm has chewed on the polygons.

Linux/Darwin on Xbox 360
The Free60 aims to port open source operating systems like GNU/Linux and Darwin to the Xbox 360 console.
