Microsoft doesn’t like orange RSS icon

Microsoft doesn’t want to use the “normal” orange RSS icon. Check out their suggestions for a new icon for their web feeds.

I don’t think they look any nice…

No. 1 looks like a strange star. I think people would confuse it with a star, often used as a symbol for favourites etc.

No. 2 is just bad. Very ugly.

No. 3 looks like a combination of a star and an 802.11 icon.

No. 4 looks like 802.11.

No. 5 is the best, but as a user says in the comments: Looks like a turban.

But why do Microsoft have to have their own icon for it? What is wrong with the orange RSS icon everybody else uses? I see the point in making an icon, but an icon for something so important like this should not be made by Microsoft. What’s wrong with standards…?
