28 chapters
Interesting community movie-making project: 28 chapters is – or rather will be – a movie with 28 parts (“chapters”) that will be made by 28 different people or groups from around the world. The story is developed along the way, but will progress more or less in the same way as a regular short movie [...]
Time for Shake
Apple just lowered the price for Shake to $499. So now you can have the high-end compositing program that was used to put together Lord Of The Rings for less than the price of Photoshop CS2. No excuse anymore…
No one seems to want Avid editors anymore…

Avid vs FCP
Patrick Inhofer has updated his Avid vs FCP article. His comments are now up-to-date with the latest versions of the software. Question: What is the difference between Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Avid’s Media Composer? Answer: None. Not at least when it comes to creating first-class, professional results in a timely manner. They both get [...]

FCP guru Ken Stone shows how to do simple animations in Final Cut Pro.
Steady pictures
The RockSteady Anti-Vibration Pads damps vibrations transmitted through the tripod legs on telescopes. But I would think it could be just as useful if you take pictures with normal cameras too (still and video), and need stabilization. And if it doesn’t help, build your own Steadicam for $14.

Where do music video directors get their ideas?
How did they do it? And where did they get the ideas? Great article on music videos over at Digitalmedianet. Lots of details on U2′s “Vertigo”, Eminem’s “Mosh” and Green Day’s “American idiot”. “The original concept of the 50 meter (in diameter) target was to build it out of concrete. However, due to our location [...]
Using iChat AV when editing
According to sources who saw the Apple FCP5 demo at NAB, iChat AV will be able to show what you play in FCP while videochatting. What a great feature! If your boss or client is somewhere else, you can use iChat AV to show your progress to him/her.

What I hope for in Final Cut Pro 5.0
Everything points to a new version of Final Cut Pro at NAB, starting 16th of April. I will eat this post if Final Cut Pro is the “latest version announced” the day after NAB, 22nd of April. Here’s what I would like to see in FCP 5.0:
Final Cut pro feature wish #1
One of my top wishes for Final Cut Pro 5, is a check box somewhere at the import files dialog box. This checkbox would say “Move to Capture scrath before importing”. With it checked, Final Cut would move the file you are about to import, from wherever it is located, to the current Capture scratch [...]
