Getting things done with Automator and Spotlight

By using Spotlight and Automator, and the new Smart folders in OS X 10.4, you can change all those messy files on the desktop to something useful. And very David Allen-ish! First, read my previous entry about “Add spotlight tags”. Make the Automator action described and save it as a Finder plugin for ctrl-clicking. Smart [...]

Two new Automator gems

First there’s the “Add spotlight tags” from Adam Rice. There’s no download, you make it yourself in Automator. Save it as a plugin in Finder, for right-click tagging. Next time you download a file, choose it in Finder, ctrl-click it and choose Automator>Add spotlight tags. Let’s say you’re working with a project, and the file [...]

Flickr automator – more great stuff from Fraser Speirs

Fraser Speirs, author of the excellent Flickr Export iPhoto plugin, has now released a Flickr Automator action for Mac OS X 10.4. People like it! Both at Fraser’s site and at Flickr. BTW, if you use Flickr Export, add the Appcast RSS feed of the program to your RSS feeds. And you’ll never miss another [...]

The new adress book in OS X Tiger 10.4

The new Address book in Mac OS X 10.4 has a few improvements that I really like. The best one is that I’m able to add multiple websites to a person’s adress card. Many of my friends now have homepages, blogs, Flickr, Del.icio.us, Furl, 43 Things etc. Now you just click the + sign next [...]

Make your own Automator scripts

Matt Neuburg shows how to make my own Automator scripts. I have programmed HyperCard stacks 700 years ago, and some nice FileMaker scripts. But never anything like this. And to be honest: It looks fun. If a little geeking can make me a script that simplifies a task I do everyday, it’s worth it. First [...]

Lost my iTunes database – again!

A way to backup all the extra attributes for songs in iTunes into each file’s metadata and restore it as a cheap protection against the DB going south. Hopefully a later version of iTunes will have this. …writes Codepoetry.net. Ah, yes. That would help. I must have lost all my ratings at least 10 times.

Fly the seas

Awesome “boat” from KKG – Katamaran Konstruktions GmbH – in Austria. “Boat” beacause it looks more like an airplane than a boat. The site is full of amazing boats. No prices, but there’s probably a reason why they have offices in Austria and Dubai…

Where is the Apple media centre software…?

Micronet’s miniMate looks like a perfect partner if you are going to buy a Mac mini for your media. But why hasn’t Apple made some media centre software? If I were Steve Jobs, this would be #1 (and #2 and #3) on my todo-list. Or Projects list as David Allen would say it. This is [...]
